The 26th Symposium on Theory and Practice of Shipbuilding

2 - 5 October 2024, Zadar – Croatia

SORTA 2024 is the 26th Symposium on the Theory and Practice of Shipbuilding in memoriam prof. Leopold Sorta jointly organized by the University of Zadar, Maritime Department, Zadar, Croatia, and the University of Trieste, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Trieste, Italy, with support of the Digital Innovation HUB Innovamare, Šibenik, Croatia. Such a significant tradition of the Symposium proves the importance of shipbuilding science and practice for both the economic and scientific development of the Republic of Croatia. Relying on such a significant tradition, the SORTA 2024 Symposium will contribute to the integration of the existing knowledge and experience in the context of modern scientific and professional achievements in the field of shipbuilding, offshore engineering, maritime and inland navigation, through invited lectures, scientific and professional papers, panel discussions and round tables.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts and papers contributing to the given symposium topics. The authors are kindly asked to submit the abstract written in English by the given deadline. Each abstract should have a maximum of 200 words.

The authors can submit abstract(s) only or abstract(s) followed by the full paper(s). In both cases, an oral presentation or poster session exhibition is mandatory for the main event. The full paper should be prepared according to instructions available on the official symposium website All abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts of the SORTA 2024 symposium.

The SORTA 2024 Proceedings with the peer-reviewed full papers will be published by the IOS Press in the series Progress in Marine Science and Technolog , which is abstracted/indexed in the Scopus database. The Publisher shall provide Temporary Free Access to the eBook edition of the Proceedings,, from 9 December to 20 December 2024.

Preparing the manuscript:

1)  The manuscript should be submitted as ‘camera-ready’, but without page numbers or running headlines.

2)  The publisher Instructions to Authors and tools for the preparation of an Electronic Camera version of the full paper can be found in the Ready Manuscript (in Word or LaTeX), which can be downloaded from the IOS Press website.

3)  All articles should include an Abstract and Keywords. This is essential to enhance the visibility of the article at IOS Press eBooks and in indexing databases.

How to submit the manuscript files:

1)  The corresponding author should submit:

  • high resolution PDF files, with all fonts embedded (if you are using Acrobat Distiller, please select the job option Press Optimized)
  • the source files of this version (either MS Word, or LaTeX files zipped together).

2)  The articles should have filenames like xy_filename.pdf, where the "filename" part can be the author's name, article title, or some other reference, and "xy" part will be defined by the Editor.

The official language of SORTA 2024 is English.

The registration of participants and submission of the abstracts can be performed through the Conference Management System. All of the participants have to register, regardless of the type of participation.

The SORTA 2024 symposium will be held mostly on the premises of the University of Zadar. The organization of accommodation is left to the participants of the symposium. However, special reservation conditions with several partner hotels in the surrounding area will be announced soon on the website

Participants who do not want to book hotel accommodation also have a quite large offer of private apartments in the entire area of the Old Town. For this purpose, it is recommended to use well-known services such as, Airbnb, etc.
